Guitarist Brendan Perry and vocalist Lisa Gerrard form the core of Dead Can Dance, formed in 1981 in Melbourne, Australia. They relocated to London the following year. They managed to land a record deal and released their eponymous debut in 1984. Three more albums followed in the following years. In 1990 they released their fifth album, Aion, which resulted in their first real commercial success and tour in the U.S., met with enthusiastic reviews. The next decade brought several more albums, increasingly successful U.S and European tours, as well as opportunities for film scoring, most notably for 1993’s Baraka. The duo parted ways in 1999, though they reunited for a ’04-’05 tour.
