( IPA: ['ɾøekˌsop:]; sometimes misspelled 'Royksopp' or 'Røyksopp') is an electronic music duo based in Bergen, Norway composed of Torbjørn Brundtland and Svein Berge. The group formed officially in 1998 and released their debut album Melody A.M. in 2001.
Despite the fact that Brundtland and Berge were schoolmates in their hometown of Tromsø and experimented with electronic instruments in the early 90's, Röyksopp only appeared years later when they met again in Bergen. The city was a vital scene for underground electronic music at this time, and the band worked with other Norwegian musicians such as Frost, Kings of Convenience’s guitarist/singer Erlend Øye, Those Norwegians and Drum Island in what was called the Bergen Wave. Their first singles were released by local independent label Tellé, and their album Melody A.M. on British label Wall of Sound. It spawned singles like "Eple", "Poor Leno", "Remind Me" and "Sparks".
Swedish pop-star, Robyn, became a worldwide sensation as a teenager with her hit singles "Show Me Love," and "Do You Know What it Takes," in 1997. However, the young starlet soon realized the downside to fame; Robyn's concert schedule and international acclaim took a toll on the singer and she began to suffer from exhaustion, which prompted a return to her homeland of Sweden in order to recover.
Robyn's RCA debut, Robyn is Here (1997) propelled the teenager to pop-stardom with a series of international singles. After a brief hiatus, she returned to the studio and recorded her sophomore release, My Truth, in 1999. While it was a hit across Europe, the album was never released in the United States. Robyn continued to record hit albums that were successful on the Euro pop and dance charts throughout the 2000s. She returned to international acclaim in 2010 with the release of the Body Talk album series that featured dance and pop hits popular on the international club scene. Indeed, the albums were so successful that they garnered Robyn two Grammy nominations at the 2010 ceremony, and spawned the #1 single, "Dancing On My Own."
She is currently touring the United States in support of the Body Talk albums-- the Robyn concert schedule (2011) sees her performing over thirty dates throughout the country.
